I needed a nice transition coat for the season and this Easy Trench Coat – Simplicity 8554 did the trick. We don’t have true season’s here so I don’t have the need for the stomp down blizzard, snow, sleet, and torrential rain kinda coat. Well, maybe not yet but there is this thing called “Climate Change”. Okay…sorry, I digress – let’s get back to the coat. 🙂
I really didn’t do anything more than follow the directions. No fancy techniques, no going rogue, nothing – nada – zip. I simply sewed the dayum thing. Sometime it feels good to not be “extra” all the time. No shade if the comment strikes a cord, I’m just saying what I feel.
Okay after I just said I wasn’t extra I wish I had lined the coat. This is an unlined coat and I should have done at least a partial lining. I’m going to make another one and will definitely line it.
Here’s what I love about this coat. It’s nice and long – makes me look tall and thin. I love the belt – makes my waist look snatched when tied. When the belt is softly tied in the back I look casually chic. 🙂
I bought the fabric last year at JoAnn’s. It’s no longer available but here is a similar fabric from JoAnn’s if you want to recreate the look.
You can dress this up or down depending on your mood. Today – it’s just a pair of black jeans, shirt, hat and sunglasses.
