Fall Dress & Duster ~ Simplicity 8084

This is probably one of my favorites projects of the year.  Simplicity 8084 comes in two lengths.  I made view A and chose a border print Ankara from the House of Mami Wata .  Let me say that the project was a breeze and my favorite part were the button plackets.  Don’t tell anyone but my sewing machine started acting up and the button hole feature was not cooperating.  Let’s just say that the plackets – while an amazing design feature….also hides a few ummm ugly buttons holes as well.  🙂

The other design detail I added was to the yoke. I prepared a self lining and used the burrito method to create a finished look on the inside of the garment.

Even though the item is pictured as a dress on the pattern envelope, I had every intention of wearing this as a duster.  I added a pair of black skinny jeans, camisole and Viola!

This is not a long post because the duster and the fabric says it all.  Did I mention the pockets?  Yeah….it has pockets and a drawstring at the waist for easy wear.

  1. Ms V. Love your version. I made this as adress for my sister. Yes that placket did help hide those oops on the buttonholes. I also used border print Ankara. I hope to make it again for myself next time.
